With the anti-racist uprisings in 2020 came a ripple effect that meant reckoning with the presence of systematic racism in every institution. With the ripple felt at Carnegie Mellon, I decided to try to create a platform for CMU affiliates to voice their own experiences of racial prejudice on campus.
After working with Chloe Wen to solicit testimonies through campus social media and email groups, I created graphics and publicly displayed them on a site, Testimonies from Carnegie Mellon.
This site and its testimonies were widely shared on social media and internal departmental mailing lists. Some departments used it in lists of anti-racist resources distributed to students and staff; others discussed it in internal meetings.
I still occasionally receive a new form response to this day.
