thinking of failure and liberation, specifically "failed" protest movements. of every person who came before us who gave what the could for the sake of being more free. i thought about the legacy of my grandfather and grandmother and their resistance against patriarchy in making my mother and her sisters become learned people; of my mother and her counterparts in their fight for a better future. i thought about palestine and kurdistan and the black liberation movement, and how many gave their lives to erode the bits of grout to let a future generation down the line be able to flourish.
one day the space between the stones will become so large the whole wall will fall.
